Chatel

The apartment is situated within easy walking distance of the very pretty Alpine village centre where there are the usual shopping facilities, including ski-hire shops, and also some very good restaurants, serving typical French cuisine and Savoyard specialities. There are also cinemas and discos as well as bars and pubs. There is a free ski bus service from the village centre to the main ski lifts and one of the ski buses stops just outside the apartment. There are several ski schools, including the Ecole de Ski Francais, teaching both downhill and cross-country ski-ing and snow-boarding. There is also a ski-school and day-centre for young children.

Chatel is one of the resorts in the Portes du Soleil - it is easy to ski to other resorts such as Champery, Avoriaz, Morgins and Les Crosets - and the ski-ing is very varied, ranging from easy blue runs to the notorious Swiss Wall, a difficult black run also known as la Chavanette. Good skiers can also go to Chamonix for the spectacular Vallee Blanche run or to les Diablerets for the run down from the glacier at over 10,500 feet.

There is a weekly street market on Wednesdays which brings local produce to the market

Chatel is on the French/Swiss border and the nearest Swiss village " Morgins " is only a couple of miles away. The major Swiss resort of Montreux is not far either.

For those who are really energetic, it is not far to Chamonix from where Mont Blanc can be climbed (but only by experts!).

The apartment

The sitting room

A large room, with one wall comprising a picture window, with a view to the mountains, which opens onto a balcony.

This faces west so that it gets the afternoon sun.

It is furnished in the Alpine style, with two sofas, one of which is a double sofa bed, other easy chairs, a dining table which can seat eight people, dining chairs, a dresser and bookcase and a TV/video (dual standard so that it can receive both French and Swiss stations), DVD and a small hifi, which includes a CD, cassette player and radio. There are about twenty English videos and also a substantial number of English and other language paperbacks. There are a number of board games, including chess, draughts and Monopoly with Paris streets and also jigsaws.

There is a bar/shelf behind which is the kitchen area where there is a cooker, sink, fridge, microwave oven and dishwasher.

The apartment does not have a telephone, but a mobile telephone with a French SIM card is available if required. It works on a pay-as-you-go basis and top-up cards can be purchased in the village.

Main bedroom

This has a double bed with a storage shelf, chest of drawers and other bedroom furniture.

Second bedroom

A large room with two single beds, a chest of drawers and a washbasin. It also has a small armchair which converts to a single bed which can be moved to the balcony. Our children enjoyed sleeping out there when they were older.

There is a pine table with two benches and some deck chairs on the balcony.

Car park

The apartment has one car park space allocated to it but there is other free parking available.

Prices

From 300 EU per week Summer to 900 EU Winter depending on the period and the length of stay.
Roughly that's between around £200 GBP and £600 GBP per week.

A welcome pack, with practical information for tenants, will be sent out by the local letting agents, with the paperwork.
