Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is about 2 hours' drive, or train journey from most of the rentals.

Lucca is about one hours' drive or take a train ride across the Apuane mountains, and when there consider hiring bicycles to ride around the old city walls.

Pisa, again is about an hour.

Pontremoli is in the other direction, towards Parma, and well worth a visit; where the pilgrims rested in their travels to and from Rome.
